Film Description

Bird Drone is a heartfelt animated short about a lonely seagull who develops an unexpected affection for a human-operated drone. As the seagull struggles to understand the limits of this unusual relationship, the film gently explores themes of longing, technology, and the bittersweet nature of unrequited love.

Blending humor and emotion, the story reflects on the relationship between the natural world and human technology while capturing the universal experience of loving something that cannot love you back.

Director:

Radheya Jegatheva is an Oscar-qualified and AACTA-nominated filmmaker from Perth, Western Australia. Born in Malaysia, his films have earned more than 40 Academy Award–qualifying festival selections. His animated short Bird Drone was shortlisted for the Sony Future Filmmaker Awards, while his film The Quiet was Oscar-qualified and longlisted for the Academy Award for Best Animated Short Film.

Radheya’s work often blends animation with emotional storytelling and is widely used as an educational tool in schools and universities. He is passionate about encouraging young people to explore the arts and has spoken to thousands of students about filmmaking and creative storytelling.
