Skyfire screens films across three host cities—Phoenix, Tempe, and Mesa—uniting audiences through a zero-waste weekend of storytelling, community events, and environmental action.

Eligibility

  • Ages under high school grade level

  • Film length: 2–5 minutes

  • Films may be shot on any equipment

Requirements

  • Submit through FilmFreeway

  • Cover letter must include school/homeschool name & grade

  • Parental involvement may be reviewed

  • No entry fees

Youth Division (Under High School Age)

Eligibility

  • High school students (18 and under)

  • Film length: 2–12 minutes

Requirements

  • Submit through FilmFreeway

  • Cover letter with school name, grade, and any AI usage

  • No entry fees

High School Division (18 & Under)

Eligibility

  • Undergraduate or graduate students

  • Film length: 2–20 minutes

Requirements

  • Cover letter with school, major, year, and AI usage

  • No entry fees

College & University Student

Eligibility

  • Environmental documentaries under 20 minutes

  • Less than 50% reenactment

Requirements

  • Cover letter noting AI usage

Fees:

  • Earlybird: $20 / $15 Gold

  • Regular: $25 / $20 Gold

  • Late: $30 / $25 Gold

Documentary Short

Eligibility

  • Environmental documentaries over 20 minutes

Requirements

  • Cover letter must include reenactment % and any AI usage

Fees:

  • Earlybird: $20 / $15 Gold

  • Regular: $30 / $25 Gold

  • Late: $50 / $40 Gold

Documentary Feature

Eligibility

  • Scripted films with environmental themes

  • Up to 20 minutes

  • Cover letter noting AI usage

How to Submit Your Film

Submitting to Skyfire is simple. All films are accepted exclusively through FilmFreeway. Choose your category—Narrative, Documentary, Student, or Youth—and upload your project, cover letter, and required details. Earlybird, Regular, and Late deadlines are now open, and we continue to welcome new submissions daily.
