Film Description
The Invisible Mammal follows an all-woman team of biologists working to save bats from a deadly fungal disease during the sixth mass extinction. When the COVID-19 pandemic disrupts their research, the scientists are forced to rethink their work, leading to unexpected discoveries about the links between bat conservation, ecosystems, and the spread of infectious disease. The film highlights the dedication of conservation scientists and the critical role bats play in maintaining ecological balance.
Director:
Kristin Tièche is an award-winning filmmaker, producer, and editor based in San Francisco, California. Her work focuses on character-driven stories that explore sustainability, conservation, and science. Her previous films include Forms of Identification, The Spinster, The Bat Rescuer, and Velo Visionaries. Her first feature documentary, The Invisible Mammal, premiered at the 2025 DocLands Film Festival in Marin County, where it won the Audience Choice Award. Kristin holds an M.A. in Television-Radio-Film from Syracuse University’s Newhouse School of Public Communications and also teaches filmmaking at Diablo Valley College and SF Film School.
